About Jumilla
Jumilla is a Spanish DenominaciĆ³n de Origen DO for wines that extends over the north of the region of Murcia, Spain. The region includes the municipality of Jumilla, from which it takes its name, and the contiguous southeast of the Albacete province municipalities of Montealegre del Castillo, Fuente-Alamo, Ontur, Hellin, Albatana and Tobarra inside the Castile-La Mancha vicinity. There are presently 32,000 hectares currently underneath vines in Jumilla DO, 45% of that are in Murcia and 55% in Albacete.
There are round 3,000 grape-growers registered. During the outbreak of the phylloxera plague inside the nineteenth century the location incredibly escaped contamination and so entered a period of financial expansion as wine traders from France came in exquisite numbers to buy wine.
