About Iglesia de Santiago

The church of Santiago, located in Baza, become built on the mosque of the suburb of Marzuela in the early 16th century and underwent foremost reforms inside the 17th century. This temple is considered one of the quality examples of Mudejar church in the entire province of Granada. It consists of three naves and excessive choir on the feet. The central nave is blanketed with awesome Mudejar armor, while the lateral ones are covered with ribbed vaults and plasterwork. Its major chapel is separated from the imperative nave by means of a toral arch pointed on Gothic pilasters of ashlar masonry, highlighting in it its cowl solved by an outstanding octagonal Mudejar armor of lavishly adorned bow, with carved angels and "candelieri" polychrome, supported on avecred scallops.
