About Barbastro
Barbastro is a city in the Somontano area, territory of Huesca, Spain. The city is at the intersection of the waterways Cinca and Vero. An old Celtiberian city called Bergidum or Bergiduna, in Roman occasions Barbastro was incorporated into the Hispania Citerior locale, and later of Hispania Tarraconensis. After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, it was a piece of the Visigoth kingdom. Barbastro and the Barbitaniya territory were overwhelmed by Musa container Nusair in 717, as a feature of the Ummayad push to vanquish northern conditions of the Marca Hispanica and the name Madyar was given to the town.
In 1064, Sancho Ramirez, King of Aragon, and his Frankish Christian powers, driven by William VIII of Aquitaine and Le Bon Normand, attacked the city, which at the time was a piece of the emir of Zaragoza. This assault was known as the Siege of Barbastro. Contemporary sources express that 50,000 individuals kicked the bucket in the assault, yet current antiquarians see this as a distortion since the entire populace of the town did not surpass 2,000.
The next year, in any case, it was reconquered by the Moors. Amid the Spanish Civil War 51 Claretians were executed in Barbastro by minute men of the Popular Front. Various communist, republican and socialist activists were imprisoned and executed in the next years after the Spanish Civil War. Barbastro's economy prospered until the 20th century, when a time of decrease started, finishing just during the 1960s because of the development of horticultural creation.
