About Alcaniz
Alcaniz is a town and district of Teruel territory in the independent network of Aragon, Spain. The town is situated on the banks of the stream Guadalope. Alcaniz is the informal capital of the Lower Aragon authentic area. It lies around 113 km from Teruel, the common capital, and 92 km from Zaragoza, the capital of Aragon. Alcaniz is the capital of the Bajo Aragon comarca and the second city in the region after Teruel.
The current settlement of Alcaniz dates to the Islamic time in Spain. It was caught by the Christian troops of Alfonso I of Aragon in 1119, however was later reclaimed by the Moors. It was vanquished again by check Ramon Berenguer IV of Barcelona in 1157, and again lost, until the point when it was at long last recovered by his child Alfonso II of Aragon. In 1179 the last gave the town to the military Order of Calatrava.
On 23 May 1809 amid the Peninsular War, the Battle of Alcaniz was battled between a Spanish power driven by General Blake and French troops directed by General Suchet.
