About Alcanar
Alcanar is a Spanish district of the Catalan comarca of Montsia, in the Tarragona area. It is a seaside town on the Mediterranean Sea. The Serra del Montsia range and its lower regions transcend the town and its environment. As indicated by information from 2006 its populace is 9,620 occupants, in spite of the fact that this expanded the following year to 9,969. It is the southernmost town in Catalonia, found only north of the outskirt with the region of Vinaros which is in the region of Castellon and part of the area of Valencia.
It was not until the fifteenth century that Alcanar was consolidated as a free town, yet the town has been populated for quite a while before at that point. From 1148 the town was a piece of the district of Ulldecona. After it was conceded autonomy, it got the name of the Canar, which begins from republic of its occupants.
The first contract was allowed in February 1239, however as the security of this settlement did not touch base until the point that it was conceded another sanction in 1252, that date is viewed as the genuine establishment of the town. In 1380, the town officially contained thirty families, and they were exposed to different assaults by Saracen privateers, which prompted the development of a post tower in the fourteenth century. As a safety measure, the town was sustained and walled. In 1449, the town ended up autonomous of Ulldecona.
