About Silleuksa
Shilleuksa is a Korean Buddhist temple situated in opposition to a low hill at the north side of the river Namhan, three kilometers east of Yeoju in Gyeonggi Province, about one-hour southeast of Seoul. The handiest riverside temple in Korea, Shilleuksa is a sacred pilgrimage website and a repository of 7 Treasures. A 500-12 months-vintage fragrant juniper tree and a six hundred-year-vintage ginkgo tree stand at the temple grounds. Founded in circa 580 via Silla Dynasty monk Wonhyo, Shilleuksa was enlarged, burned, and rededicated several times. Shilleuksa become made a prayer sanctuary to the royal mausoleum of King Sejong the Great in 1469, all through the reign of King Seongjong.
Often called the "wall temple" due to an impressive brick pagoda towering high above, Shilleuksa is small through popular measure. Josadong is the oldest building at Shilleuk-sa. Built to pay tribute to Buddhist priests Naong, Muhak, and Jigong, it enshrines their graphics. Ordained at the age of 20, grasp Naong spent ten years in China. He became a celebrated Zen grasp whose teaching techniques incorporated chanting, for him a state of mind wherein obtrusive thinking became absent. He purportedly planted the temple's six hundred 12 months-antique ginkgo tree.
