About Jeungsim Buddhist Temple
Situated on the western lower regions of Mudeungsan Mountain, Jeungsimsa Temple is an agent sanctuary of Gwangju. To start with established by Buddhist priest Cheolgamseonsa Do Yun in 517 (Silla Kingdom), the sanctuary was redesigned by Buddhist priest Hyesoguksa in 1094 (Goryeo Dynasty) and again by Kim Bang in 1443 (Joseon Dynasty). The sanctuary was torched amid the Imjin Waeran War who is Japanese Invasion and was reproduced in 1609 by three Buddhist priests: Seokgyeong, Sujang, and Dogwang.
It experienced a few extra rebuilding efforts previously being obliterated again by flame amid the Korean War (1950-1953). The greater part of the current structures, including Daeungjeon (principle sanctuary building), were revamped in the 1970s. This is one of the best and famous temple in the city.
