Jeju Province, officially Jeju Special Self-Governing Province,is one of the 9 provinces of South Korea. The province is situated on and conterminous with the kingdom's largest island of Jeju, formerly transliterated as Cheju, Cheju Do, etc. It become previously called Quelpart to Europeans and at some stage in the Japanese career as Saishu. The island lies in the Korea Strait, southwest of South Jeolla Province, of which it was a element earlier than it became a separate province in 1946. Its capital is Jeju City.
