About Mandela House
This museum is also called as Mandela House,it is situated in the house on Vilakazi Street, Orlando West, Soweto, South Africa.
Here the former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela lived from 1946 to 1962.
The extact location of this house is between Vilakazi and Ngakane streets,It is a short distance up the road from Tutu House.
The house is a single-story red-brick matchbox built in 1945. It has bullet holes in the walls and the facade has scorch marks from attacks with Molotov cocktails.
This house was given by Mandela to the Soweto Heritage Trust on 1 September 1997, to be continue running as a museum.
It was articulated a National Heritage Site in 1999.
