Goree

The Island of Gorée vouches for an exceptional human involvement ever. Surely, for the general still, small voice, this "memory island" is the image of the slave exchange with its cortege of anguish, tears and passing. The difficult recollections of the Atlantic slave exchange are solidified in this little island of 28 hectares lying 3.5 km off the drift from Dakar.

Gorée owes its solitary fate to the extraordinary centrality of its topographical position between the North and the South, and to its magnificent vital position offering a place of refuge for mooring ships, thus the name "Great Rade". Along these lines, since the fifteenth century it has been prized by different European countries that have progressively utilized it as a stopover or slave showcase.
