About Yasnaya Polyana
Tolstoy was born in the house, where he wrote both War and Peace and Anna Karenina.Yasnaya Polyana is a writer's house museum, the former home of the writer Leo Tolstoy. It is 12 kilometers southwest of Tula, Russia, and 200 kilometers from Moscow.
Following Tolstoy’s conversion to Christian anarchism, Yasnaya Polyana became a pilgrimage center for his followers. The Museum complex consists a servants’ house, coach houses, a park extending to the Voronka River, and Tolstoy’s home, the Volkonsky mansion built in the Neoclassical style, with his library of some 22,000 books.
Tolstoy was buried in a grave marked only by nine oaks on Stary Zakaz Old Wood Hill, a few hundred yards from his simply furnished home upon his death in 1910,
