About Tarusa
Tarusa is a town and the regulatory focus of Tarussky District in Kaluga Oblast, Russia, situated on the left bank of the Oka River, 76 kilometers or 47 mi upper east of Kaluga, the managerial focal point of the oblast. The name is from that of the Tarusa River, a tributary of the Oka; Tar-is a hydronym base normal for districts of old Baltic settlement. According to a prevalent view, the name gets from Tarusa's geohistorical position as a bordertown to the abutting domain of Lithuania arranged on the bank of the Oka. Inquiries regarding voyagers' whereabouts from the other bank were replied with the response To—Rus, signifying "that is Russia", in the long run turning into the name of the town.
Tarusa is known to have existed since 1246, when it was the capital of one of the Upper Oka Principalities—the Principality of Tarusa. The main leader of this realm was Grand Duke Yury Mikhaylovich, the child of Grand Duke Mikhail Vsevolodovich of Chernigov. Tarusa was utilized as a fortification at the southern ways to deal with Moscow in the 15th – 17th century. Inside the structure of regulatory divisions, Tarusa fills in as the authoritative focal point of Tarussky District, to which it is straightforwardly subordinated. As a civil division, the town of Tarusa is consolidated inside Tarussky Municipal District as Tarusa Urban Settlement. The town has various famous exhibition halls— the Tarusa Regional Museum of Local Lore and the Tsvetayevs Family Museum.
