About Sengiley
Sengiley is a town and the regulatory focus of Sengileyevsky District in Ulyanovsk Oblast, Russia, situated on the correct bank of Kuybyshev Reservoir, 72 kilometers south of Ulyanovsk, the authoritative focal point of the oblast. It was established in 1666 as a protective military station against itinerant raids. Several slobodas later conformed to the station and in the start of the 18th century the slobodas of Stanichnaya, Butyrskaya, and Vybornaya converged into the town of Pokrovskoye, named for a Church of the Intercession. In 1780, it was contracted as the town of Sengiley; named for its situation on the waterway then of a similar name now the Sengileyka, a tributary of the Volga, which originates from Erzya words syang, which means tributary and lei, which means river. In 1925, Sengiley was downgraded in status to that of a provincial area, however was conceded urban-type settlement status soon thereafter. Town status was conceded to it again in 1943. There is a nearby exhibition hall. It has displays in different regions including expressive arts and neighborhood history. Inside the system of authoritative divisions, Sengiley fills in as the managerial focal point of Sengileyevsky District.
