Sebezh

Sebezh is a town and the administrative center of Sebezhsky District in Pskov Oblast, Russia, placed in a picturesque putting among Lakes Sebezhskoye and Orono 189 kilometers south of Pskov, the place of business of the oblast. It was first noted in 1414 as a fortress protecting Pskov from the south, whilst Vytautas of Lithuania sacked it. Prince Ivan Shuysky built a wood fortress there in 1535. In the 16th century, the citadel defended the Western techniques to the Grand Duchy of Moscow.

The Poles captured it all through the Livonian War and held till the First Partition of Poland. Until 1927, Sebezh changed into the seat of Sebezhskly Uyezd of Pskov Governorate.On August 1, 1927, the uyezds and governorates had been abolished and Sebezhsky District, with the place of business in Sebezh, was established as part of Velikiye Luki Okrug of Leningrad Oblast.It included parts of former Sebezhsky Uyezd.

On June 3, 1929, Sebezhsky District turned into transferred to Western Oblast. On July 23, 1930, the okrugs were also abolished and the districts were directly subordinated to the oblast. On January 29, 1935, Western Oblast changed into abolished and the district turned into transferred to Kalinin Oblast, and on February five of the identical year, Sebezhsky District became part of Velikiye Luki Okrug of Kalinin Oblast, one of the okrugs abutting the nation obstacles of the Soviet Union.
