About Onega
Onega is a town in the northwest of Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia, located at the mouth of the Onega River, some kilometers from the shore of the Onega Bay of the White Sea. The Pomor village of Ust-Onega was first stated in Novgorodian documents in the 14th century. It was chartered on August 19, 1780, after Pyotr Shuvalov had sold his rights to fell wood to English industrialists who constructed several sawmills there. Since 1784, Onega become the workplace of Onezhsky Uyezd. The financial system of the metropolis is based on wooden enterprise. There is likewise manufacturing of production materials. Onega is a minor port on a bay on the White Sea, which routinely freezes in wintry weather.
The metropolis is also served via the Arkhangelsk–Murmansk rail line, which branches off in Obozerskaya railway station from the railroad among Moscow and Arkhangelsk and runs west to Onega and Belomorsk in which it joins the railroad among Petrozavodsk and Murmansk.
