About Novosokolniki
Novosokolniki is a city and the administrative center of Novosokolnichesky District in Pskov Oblast, Russia, placed at the Maly Udray River on the junction of the St. Petersburg–Kiev and Moscow–Riga railways, 287 kilometers southeast of Pskov, the place of work of the oblast. It become founded in 1901 because of creation of the railway among Moscow and Riga. At the time, it turned into part of Velikoluksky Uyezd in Pskov Governorate.
The call is due to the close by locality then known as Sokolniki, whose name in flip is derived from the Russian phrase "Russian: сокол", since the residents specialized on breeding falcons for searching. Novosokolniki became granted city fame in 1925. On August 1, 1927, the uyezds and governorates had been abolished and Novosokolnichesky District, with the place of job in Novosokolniki, became set up as a part of Velikiye Luki Okrug of Leningrad Oblast. It protected components of former Velikoluksky and Nevelsky Uyezds.
On June 3, 1929, Novosokolnichesky District became transferred to Western Oblast. On July 23, 1930, the okrugs were additionally abolished and the districts were at once subordinated to the oblast. On January 29, 1935, Western Oblast became abolished and the district was transferred to Kalinin Oblast, and on February 5 of the equal year, Novosokolnichesky District have become part of Velikiye Luki Okrug of Kalinin Oblast, one of the okrugs abutting the state boundaries of the Soviet Union.
