About Neman
Neman before 1946 known by its German name Ragnit, is a town and the authoritative focal point of Nemansky District in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, situated in the notable East Prussia, on the lofty southern bank of the Neman River, where it frames the Russian fringe with the Klaipeda Region in Lithuania, and 130 kilometers upper east of Kaliningrad, the managerial focus of the oblast. Ragnita established in 1288, was a settlement of the Baltic clan of Skalvians. It was challenged by the Grand Duchy of Lithuania since its creation in the 13th century, and on April 23, 1289 it was vanquished by the Teutonic Knights, who fabricated a Gothic chateau there, which later turned into the seat of a Komtur.
The fortification was called Landeshut, yet the name did not wind up well known and the name Ragnit, after a neighborhood stream, a tributary of the Memel, continued to be utilized. In spite of the fact that the settlement had a critical chateau not just guarding the Prussian grounds of the State of the Teutonic Order from the north yet in addition filling in as an army installation for the Knights' crusades into adjoining Samogitia, it was living in the shadow of the close-by city of Tilsit. After the disintegration of the Order's State under its last Grand Master Albrecht von Hohenzollern, Ragnit on April 10, 1525 turned into a piece of the Duchy of Prussia, which was administered by the House of Hohenzollern as a fief of the Polish Crown until 1657.
