About Labytnangi
Labytnangi is a town in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Russia, situated on the left bank of the Ob River, 20 kilometers northwest of Salekhard. It was set up in 1890. It was allowed urban-type settlement status in 1952 and town status in 1975. Labytnangi is associated with the European Russia by a part of the Konosha-Vorkuta railroad. It is the end station on this short stub branch; in any case, it was worked in the mid 1950s by Gulag prisoners as the principal phase of an expansive task under which the railroad would have crossed the north of Tyumen Oblast and achieved Igarka on the Yenisei River.
The task was deserted after Joseph Stalin's death. Within the system of managerial divisions, it is fused as the town of okrug importance of Labytnangi an authoritative unit with the status equivalent to that of the districts. As a city division, the town of okrug noteworthiness of Labytnangi is fused as Labytnangi Urban Okrug.
