About Khvalynsk
Khvalynsk is a town in Saratov Oblast, Russia, situated by the Volga River. The Khvalynsk culture is named after the town. It was established in 1556 as a Russian station on the Sosnovy Island on the Volga. In 1606, the entire settlement was moved to the spot of the present Khvalynsk and came to be known as Sosnovy Ostrov. In 1780, the settlement was conceded uyezd town status and renamed Khvalynsk.
