About Kem
Kem is a town and the regulatory focal point of Kemsky District of the Republic of Karelia, Russia, situated on the shores of the White Sea where the Kem River enters it, on the railroad driving from Petrozavodsk to Murmansk. Kem was first made reference to as a demesne of the Novgorod posadnik Marfa Boretskaya in 1450, when she given it to the Solovetsky Monastery arranged in the White Sea a few kilometers off shore.
