About Gusev
Gusev recently known by its German name Gumbinnen, is a town and the authoritative focus of Gusevsky District of Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, situated at the juncture of the Pissa and Krasnaya Rivers, close to the fringe with Poland and Lithuania, east of Chernyakhovsk. The settlement of Gumbinnen in the Duchy of Prussia was first made reference to in a 1580 deed. A Protestant ward was set up in Gumbinnen at the command of the Hohenzollern because of Duke Albert of Prussia around 1545 and the principal church was raised in 1582.
Gumbinnen turned out to be a piece of Brandenburg-Prussia in 1618. Somewhere in the range of 1709 and 1711 the zone was crushed by the Great Northern War torment episode and must be redeveloped under the standard of the "Warrior King" Frederick William I of Prussia, who allowed Gumbinnen town benefits in 1724 and from 1732 resettled the territory with Protestant evacuees from Salzburg, who had been removed by Prince-Archbishop Count Leopold Anton von Firmian.
The first dutiful church of the Salzburg Protestants was raised somewhere in the range of 1752 and 1752, and was modified in 1840 out of a Neoclassical style as indicated by plans structured by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. The congregation was reestablished in 1995 by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
