Brilliant Gates existed in the holiest urban communities of Eastern Orthodoxy: Jerusalem, Constantinople, and Kiev. On making Vladimir his capital, Andrew the Pious tried to copy these structures, authorizing an elevated overshadow the city's fundamental entryway to be raised in limestone and fixed with brilliant plaques.

As indicated by antiquated Russian narratives, the bricklayers were welcomed from Friedrich Barbarossa. The primary curve used to stand 15 meters tall. The structure was finished with a barbican church committed to the Deposition of the Virgin's Robe and symbolizing the Theotokos' security of Andrew's capital. The door endure the Mongol demolition of Vladimir in 1237. By the late 18th century, in any case, the structure had so weakened that Catherine the Great was reluctant to go through the curve because of a paranoid fear of its tumbling down.

In 1779, she requested point by point estimations and illustrations of the landmark to be executed. In 1795, after numerous talks, the vaults and barbican church were annihilated. Two flanking round towers were built with the end goal to fortify the structure, and craftsmans at that point reproduced the barbican, following the illustrations made in 1779.
