About Gatchina Palace
The Great Gatchina Palace is a palace in Gatchina, Leningrad Oblast, Russia. It became built from 1766 to 1781 via Antonio Rinaldi for Count Grigori Grigoryevich Orlov, who became a favorite of Catherine the Great, in Gatchina, a suburb of the royal capital Saint Petersburg. The Gatchina Palace combines classical structure and issues of a medieval citadel with ornate interiors common of Russian classicism, located on a hill in valuable Gatchina next to Lake Serebryany. The Gatchina Palace became one of the favored houses of the Russian Imperial Family, and at some point of the 19th century changed into an crucial web site of Russian politics. Since the February Revolution in 1917 it has been a museum and public park, and acquired UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1990.
In 1765, Catherine the Great, the Empress of the Russian Empire, bought from Prince Boris Kurakin the Gatchina Manor, a small manor 40 kilometers south of the royal capital of Saint Petersburg. Catherine supplied the manor to Count Grigory Grigoryevich Orlov, who had reportedly prepared the assassination of Tsar Peter III 3 years earlier, ensuing in her becoming empress. Orlov changed into a fave of Catherine's, and Gatchina Manor was talented to him as gratitude for his function in the coup d'etat.
