About Dankov
Dankov is a town and the regulatory focus of Dankovsky District in Lipetsk Oblast, Russia, situated on the Don River 86 kilometers northwest of Lipetsk, the authoritative focal point of the oblast. The fortification of Donkov was established by the Princes of Ryazan in the late 14th century and took its name from the Don River. The fortress remained on the left bank of the Don, around 34 kilometers from the advanced town, until 1568, when it was demolished by the Crimean Tatars.
It was then reestablished on a superior sustained area however was again migrated in 1618. It is appeared as Donko in Mercator's Atlas 1596, and as Donkagorod in Resania in Joan Blaeu's guide of 1645. By the 18th century, its spelling changed from Donkov to Dankov. The town was sanctioned by Catherine the Great yet was downgraded in status to that of a country area somewhere in the range of 1796 and 1804 and again somewhere in the range of 1924 and 1959.
