About Turda Gorge
Turda Gorge is a herbal reserve situated 6 km west of Turda and about 15 km south-east of Cluj-Napoca, in Transylvania, Romania. The canyon, fashioned through the erosion of the Jurassic limestone of the mountain, is 2, 900 m lengthy and the walls have heights reaching 300 m. The overall floor of the canyon is of 324 ha.
Cheile Turzii comprises one of the richest and most scenic karst landscapes in Romania. More than one thousand plant and animal species a number of them rare or endangered, like the wild garlic or a few species of eagle live right here. The web site has been inhabited because the neolithic. More than 1,000 plant species can be located in the reservation, inclusive of Allium obliquum, Dianthus integripetalus, Viola jobi. 67 species of birds, butterflies, fish, amphibians and some mammals foxes, weasels, martens, wild boars and so on. There are some 60 acknowledged caves, almost all of them being of small length.
