Simleu Silvaniei

Simleu Silvaniei is a metropolis in Salaj County, Transylvania, Romania with a populace of 16,066 human beings. Is located close to the historic Dacian fort Dacidava. Before the Roman conquest of Dacia, Simleu became a political, social and administrative Dacian centre, of high significance. Seven Dacian fortresses, some with associated settlements, had been arranged in an arc shape around the hills of Simleu.

They had a strategic function in the supervising the trade along the salt street coming from regions round Napoca, Potaissa and contemporary Dej, and heading to Pannonia. The centre of an early Gepidia, at the plains northwest of the Meses Mountains, seems to have been positioned around Simleu Silvaniei, in which early 5th-century treasured items of Roman provenance had been unearthed. In 1258 it became referred to as Wathasomlyowa. The call manner Wata's mountain the call Wata is of Old Turkish origin, while somlyowa is an archaic Hungarian word for mountain.
