About Sercaia
Serkia, Serkien, Sarkaia is the village of the commune with the equal name in Braşov County, Transylvania, Romania. Due to its historical connections, Sercaia was regularly considered to be one of the 15 citadel of the Land of Bursa. Sercaia is referred to for the primary time in a file issued by means of Pope Gregory IX, in 1235, with the name "Sarcam". In 1372, the commune is known as "Scherkkegen oppidum". By a document dated June 10, 1417, Mircea the Elder gave Sercaia village the households Borcea and Călian from Vad, 6 with the specification of parts of land whose toponymy remains preserved.
In 1429, the city is called "Sorkingen". This is the primary time approximately the village church. On the map of Johannes Honterus, published in 1532 in Basel, the metropolis is called "Schyrkengin". It is commonly prevalent that during Sercaia there was an historical monastery of Cistercian priests, the reminiscence of which became perpetuated in a few toponyms of the locality: Montschebicher Wiech, Montschenauer Hill, etc.
