About Saint John the New Monastery
Saint John the New Monastery is a Romanian Orthodox monastery in Suceava, Romania. Built between 1514 and 1522, the monastery church is considered one of eight buildings that make up the church buildings of Moldavia UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is also indexed as a ancient monument by the country's Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs. Its creation commenced at some point of the reign of voivode Bogdan III the One-Eyed of Moldavia, after the close by Mirauti Church became devastated in 1513. The creation was completed by way of Stephen IV of Moldavia.
The monastery church served as metropolitan cathedral of Moldavia until 1677 and, in view that 1991, it serves because the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Suceava and Radauti.
