About Rociu
Rociu is a commune in Arges County, in southern central Romania. It consists of 4 villages: Gliganu de Jos, Gliganu de Sus, Rociu and Serbanesti. The oldest relics come from the Bronze Age, from Serbanesti village. Then, a lot later, the village Gliganu is cited, on June 12, 1564.
The village belonged to a boyar from Rucar. According to the same source, all 4 villages are mentioned after 1830. In the Communist length, the commune acquired a strong impulse for financial increase: A 25 km long irrigation canal turned into constructed to drain water from the Argeș River. Rociu received unique attention because there was constructed a farm of the Communist Party. The Gavanu-Burdea undeniable is a flat place, with huge and fertile valleys. Rociu is located close to the Dâmbovnic River. There are some smaller rivers which might be dry in summer time, like Mozacu River and Gliganu River. There are many small lakes, used for fishing. According to the 2002 census, the commune has 3014 human beings, of which 2968 are Romanians and 46 are Roma human beings.
