About Poieni
Poieni is a commune in Cluj County, Romania. It consists of eight villages: Bologa, Cerbesti, Hodisu, Lunca Visagului, Morlaca, Poieni, Tranisu and Valea Draganului. 4000 years vintage artefacts have been determined at the area called Drumul gaunos. A Roman castrum known as Resculum is the oldest documented settlement within the area. It was built round 106 AD, as a garrison for the II Cohortis Hispanorum, whose mission turned into probably to shield the Roman Empire's border.
As the Romans tried to tighten their hold on the area for the duration of the 2nd century A.D., they brought in colonists to the village from Greece, in all likelihood from Patras. The ruins of the castrum are still visible nowadays inside the vicinity still called Gradiste which means fortified agreement, even though maximum of the region is cultivated. The ruins of a Roman bath also exist close to the castrum.
