About Ostrov
Ostrov is a commune in Constanta County, Romania. The call Ostrov is a word of Slavic starting place and it method "island". The village itself isn't always placed on an island, but as an alternative at the banks of the Danube. Ostrov is close to the Bulgarian border, with a border crossing linking it to the Bulgarian metropolis of Silistra. At the 2011 census, Ostrov had 4,730 Romanians, 187 Roma, 30 Turks, four others. Păcuiul lui Soare is the name of a fort on an island close to Ostrov. The ruins from the start of eighth century belong to the "Glorious Palace" of the First Bulgarian Khans on Danube and important base of the Bulgarian Danube fleet, as researchers suppose.
They discovered many Protobulgarian marks graved in the blocks of the stone masonry of fortress that construct pretty similar to the imperial capital Pliska. The stone graving text from the "Holy 40 martyrs column" located in Tarnovo indicate that the Great Khan Omurtag built, perhaps over Byzantine ruins, the medieval port and palace complicated.
