About Nojorid
Nojorid is the commune of the identical name in Bihor County, Crişana, Romania. It is 9 km south of Oradea, on the countrywide road to Timisoara. The locality is documented in 1229 in a donation act. The Latin call of the locality is Villa Irug. Later, locating two villas of the village, they were referred to as Villa Irug Maior and Villa Irug Minor. The Romanian equivalences of those toponyms had been Ieruga Mare and Ieruga Mica. The names of the 2 localities have been Magyarized, becoming Nagy Ürögy or Uregd and Kiss Ürögy, and then again romanianized, turning into Nojorid and Chisidirid.
The Romanian population inside the village of Nojorid switched to Greek Catholicism after the union of part of the Romanian church in Transylvania with Rome, while the inhabitants of different villages in Bihor County remained orthodox. In 1719 the life of eighty four households in the free village Nojorid is recorded. Among the oldest surnames in the village are Culici, David, Ierugan, Iambor, Pop and Silaghi.
