About Moisei
Moisei is a commune in Maramureș County, Romania. Composed of a unmarried village, Moisei, it's miles one of the oldest communes in Maramures County, first attested in 1213. This vicinity is well known for the monastery close to the village, based in 1672. It is the site of the Moisei massacre which took place on October 14, 1944, whilst 39 Romanians and 3 Jews had been killed through the Hungarian Army. Moisei is located in the southeastern part of Maramureș County, at 136 km from Baia Mare, the county seat, at 5 km from Borsa and at 7 km from Vișeu de Sus. The village is located in particular at the Viseu River’s path, on Dragos Spring and on Black Spring.
Together, these waterways constitute the main panorama of the village, along with the houses which can be built on hills as much as 800 m high. The commune is situated inside the comfort unit called Maramureș Hollow, below the Viseu corridor. Practically, Moisei is placed at the bottom of Rodnei Mountains, having Pietrosu mountain on its higher facet and the Maramures Mountains to the north. Passage from Lunca Viseului to the mountain region is made evidently from hills with heights between six hundred and 800 m.
