About Metropolitan Cathedral
The Metropolitan Cathedral, Iasi, situated at 16 Stefan cel Mare si Sfant Boulevard, Iasi, Romania, is the seat of the Romanian Orthodox Archbishop of Iasi and Metropolitan of Moldavia and Bukovina, and the biggest recorded Orthodox Church in Romania. It is devoted to Saint Parascheva, to the Presentation of Jesus and to Saint George. Its frame was propelled by the late Italian Renaissance style, with Baroque components ruling the inside and outside enlivening highlights.
The Metropolitan Cathedral is recorded in the National Register of Historic Monuments. The outside of the Cathedral, and in addition the inside, is enhanced in the Baroque style. The eastern facade has a focal theme framed of six Corinthian sections raised on a stone socle, which bolster the architrave, above which is a high bas-alleviation of the Presentation of the Lord.
The western facade has eight segments isolated by the passageway, above which there is a recessed overhang whose vault has a bended mosaic likewise demonstrating the Presentation; over that is a stone cutting of Saint George. The rooftop is enhanced with zinc fleurons and adapted crosses enhance both the rooftop and the four towers. In May 2016, the Metropolitan Museum devoted to the historical backdrop of the Metropolis of Moldavia and Bukovina was initiated in the storm cellar of the Great Cathedral.
