About Lugoj
Lugoj is a town in Timis County, Banat, western Romania. The river Timis divides the metropolis into two halves, the so-called Romanian Lugoj that spreads at the proper bank and the German Lugoj on the left bank. It is the seat of the Eparchy of Lugoj inside the Romanian Church United with Rome, Greek-Catholic. The metropolis administers two villages, Maguri and Tapia. Lugoj was as soon as a strongly fortified city that advanced along the river Timis.
During the Middle Ages and 18th century, it turned into of greater relative significance than at gift. A degree dated Wednesday 22 August 1376, signed by way of King Sigismund of Luxemburg, suggests that Lugoj city was donated to landowners Ladislaus and Stephen Loszonczy. At the quit of the 14th century, after the Battle of Nicopolis, the Turks crossed the Danube, invading Banat and reached the gates of Lugoj. During predominant campaigns in opposition to the Turks, Hunyadi, as a comite of Timis, took steps to organize the city's protection device. He bolstered the town with trenches, ramparts and palisades.
