About Liesti
Liesti is a commune in eastern Romania, the third-largest commune of Galati County, at the confluence of the Siret and Barlad rivers, very near Tecuci and Galati. It is composed of two villages, Liesti and Serbanesti. The latter is the southernmost part of the commune. The first point out of the village dates from 1448, when in the prince of Moldavia, Petru II, who gives as a present to the local nobleman Cernat Ploscarul and to his brother, Stefu, forty villages and fields amongst which appear Liesti and Serbanesti.
The village has a sugar factory, however most of the people of the populace works in neighborhood agriculture or in siderurgy on the Siderurgical Combinate Mittal Steel from Galati. Beginning around 2000, many humans from the area have long past to work in Italy or Spain, wherein wages are higher. Liesti has numerous Romanian Orthodox church buildings – St. Parascheva, Dormition of the Virgin and St. Nicholas- the seat of the Protopopiate of Nicoresti. Other attractions encompass the acacia forests close to the village and the picturesque valleys of the rivers Siret and Barlad.
