About Jamu Mare
Jamu Mare is a commune in Timis County, Banat, Romania. The village changed into first stated in a report in 1343, beneath the call "villa Zamer". In 1717, the village Scham had 67 homes. At the end of the 18th century, Hungarian statistician Fényes Elek recorded that the village referred to as Nagy Zsam had a populace of one,562, beneath the rule of thumb of the nobleman Ludovic Karacsony.
In 1786 the German colony Freudenthal was founded, at a distance of 4 km faraway from the contemporary website online of the village of Jamu Mare. During the 50 years following 1809, the Romanian population become expelled from the commune, on the way to make room for the German households coming from Fibis, Iecea and Grabat. In 1893 the German colony became protected within the village of Jamu Mare. From 1919 to 1924 the commune belonged to the Serbo-Croat Kingdom. In Romanian the name means Greater Jam/Zam". On the opposite facet of the border, in Serbia, there may be a village called Mali Zam. Names in different languages: German: Freudenthal or Gross-Scham, Hungarian: Nagyzsam.
