About Galata Monastery
The Galata Monastery is a Romanian Orthodox religious community for nuns, established toward the finish of the sixteenth century by Moldavian Voivode Petru Schiopul, in the west of Iasi, Romania. The religious community is situated on the highest point of Galata Hill, and can be effectively seen from various areas of Iasi. The congregation, encompassed by dividers with provisos and furnished with a chime tower at the passage, resembles a post, regularly filling in as a position of barrier and in some cases as an illustrious living arrangement. Close to the congregation on the slope, are places that give all encompassing perspectives over the city.
Before building the current cloister, Voivode Petru Schiopul established a religious community, named Galata from the Valley. Its name originates from the area with a similar name from Constantinople (the present Istanbul), where Romanian Rulers used to discover shield when they went to the "Glorious Porte". In the late spring of 1577, in its first rule, the Voivode sent a letter to the pioneers of Bistrita in which he asked for pros in development, being disappointed by the Moldavian constructors. Subsequently, it can be reasoned that the development of the cloister started in pre-winter 1577.
