The Fortress Church or the Big Church is the oldest surviving church in Târgu Mures. After less than a century from the first ancient evidence of the life of the Franciscan order in Transylvania, Hungarian Kingdom Franciscan friars arrived in the city. The monastery is first referred to in 1332. Its constructing took a whole century, from the middle of the 14th century till the center of the 15th and consists of the monastery building, an older chapel, the church and the steeple. As a long way as the architectural fashion is worried, these buildings belong to the late Gothic, both structurally and aesthetically. There had been three constructing periods: 1350–1370 – whilst the chapel and monastery had been constructed, 1370–1400 – the erection of the church choir and 1400–1450 –
