About Fagaras
Fagaras is a municipality in primary Romania, placed in Brasov County. It lies at the Olt River and has a population of 28,330 as of 2011. It is located in the ancient region of Transylvania, and is the primary city of a subregion, Tara Fagarasului. Fagaras, collectively with Amlas, constituted at some stage in the middle Ages a traditional Romanian local-autonomy area in Transylvania. The first written record citing Romanians in Transylvania noted Vlach lands Terra Blacorum inside the Fagaras Region in 1222.
In this file, Andrew II of Hungary gave Burzenland and the Cuman territories South of Burzenland up to the Danube to the Teutonic Knights. After the Tatar invasion in 1241 to 1242, Saxons settled within the area. In 1369, Louis I of Hungary gave the Royal Estates of Fagaras to his vassal, Vladislav I of Wallachia. As in other comparable cases in medieval Europe which includes Foix, Pokuttia or Dauphine, the local feudal needed to swear oath of allegiance to the king for the specific territory, even when the former changed into himself an impartial ruler of another kingdom.
