About Darjiu
Darjiu is a commune in Harghita County, Romania. It lies in the Szekely Land, an ethno-cultural region in japanese Transylvania. The toponym "Szekelyderzs" became first mentioned as "De ers" in a papal list of tithes taken in 1334. In 1525, it was recorded as Ders, even as in 1760, it became already noted by means of its present day Hungarian call as Szekely Derzs. Unitariansm became an legitimate faith in Transylvania from the 1583 Medgyes parliament. The first bishop became Ferenc David, a local Hungarian-speaking Saxon.
The first appointed ruler of Transylvania became the Unitarian John II Sigismund Zapolya son of the Hungarian king John Zapolya 1526 to 1541. The villages had been historically a part of the Szekely Land vicinity of Transylvania province. They belonged to Udvarhelyszek district until the executive reform of Transylvania in 1876, once they fell within the Udvarhely County inside the Kingdom of Hungary. After the Treaty of Trianon of 1920, they have become part of Romania and fell within Odorhei County for the duration of the interwar period. In 1940, the second one Vienna Award granted the Northern Transylvania to Hungary and the villages had been held with the aid of Hungary till 1944.
