About Carta Monastery
The Carta Monastery monastery inside the Tara Fagarasului vicinity in southern Transylvania in Romania, presently an Evangelical Lutheran church belonging to the neighborhood Saxon community. It lies at the left financial institution of the Olt River, among the towns of Sibiu and Fagaras, close to the villages of Carta and Cartisoara.
The monastery was probable founded in 1202 to 1206 with the aid of monks from Igris Abbey and become disbanded in 1494, whilst the apostolic legate Ursus of Ursinis ratified Carta Abbey's attachment to the Provostship nullius of Sibiu. The Cistercian monastery added and helped increase French Gothic art in the area. The precise founding date of the Carta Monastery is unknown. A file from Konstanz, dated 17 April 1418, issued by using Sigismund, king of Hungary states vaguely that the monastery changed into based, built, and provided rights and privileges by way of his predecessors.
