About Caransebes
Caransebes is a municipality in Caras-Severin County, a part of the Banat region in southwestern Romania. It is located at the confluence of the River Timiș with the River Sebeș, the latter coming from the Țarcu Mountains. To the west, it's far in direct touch with the Banat Hills. It is an vital railroad node, being placed approximately 40 km far from Resita, 21 km from Oțelu Roșu, 70 km from Hațeg and approximately 25 km from the Muntele Mic ski lodge, inside the Țarcu Mountains. One village, Jupa Hungarian: Zsuppa, is run by using the town. The first traces of habitation here would possibly date as some distance as Dacian times.
Dacian ruins had been observed these days near Obreja, a village 7 km away. As the Romans invaded Dacia, they built a castrum named Tibiscum, which turned into dug up by way of archaeologists near the close by village of Jupa, a castrum which later grew to be a full town. Tibiscum is taken into consideration one of the gates of Christianity in Dacia, having an essential position also within the Romanization of the local people.
