Bocicoiu Mare

Bocicoiu Mare is a commune in Maramures County, Romania. It lies 9 kilometres east of Sighetu Marmatiei, throughout the Tisza River from Velykyy Bychkiv, Ukraine. The village become first mentioned in 1373, by way of the call Boshko. Its name derives from a Slavic word meaning "bull". From 1556 it belonged to the Bathory circle of relatives. By 1711 a mansion already stood here. After the failed revolution led through Francis II Rakoczi, Germans settled down within the location.

The village turned into referred to as Nemetbocsko and changed into united with two villages across the river, forming a greater village called Nagybocsko. This village had accordingly three parts: Ujbocsko, which paperwork modern Bocicoiu Mare, and Kisbocsko and Nagybocsko, which shape present day Velykyy Bychkiv.
