Bertestii de Jos

Bertestii de Jos is a commune in Braila County , Muntenia , Romania , consisting of the villages of Bertestii de Jos, Bertestii de Sus , Gura Calmaţui , Gura Garluţei , Nicolesti and Spiru Haret . The commune is at the sinking of Calmaţuiul inside the Danube , its villages being situated at the proper bank of this river. The commune passes the county road DJ212, which leads north to Viziru and southwards to Mihail Kogalniceanu.

At the cease of the nineteenth century, the Bertestii de Jos commune was a part of the Balta net of Braila County and became formed most effective from the Berteştii de Jos, Gura Garluţei and Polizesti hamlets, with a total population of 1220 population. There changed into a mill inside the commune, a mixed school with 26 pupils founded in 1857 and a church constructed in 1830 by means of the owner San-Marin.
