About Castelo do Bode
Castelo de Bode is one of the lakes and it is the largest body of fresh water in Portugal. It was created following the opening of the Castelo de Bode dam in 1951, a concrete arch-gravity construction that remains one of the tallest structures in Portugal.
Initially worked to serve the first of Portugal's hydro-electric power stations, it now supplies water to in excess of three million nearby tenants and guests and the dam of Castelo de Bode is found 13 kilometers southwest of Tomar and north of Constância on the Zêzere River, a tributary of the Tagus that goes through the Ribatejo area.
Castelo de Bode is a prominent area for holidaymakers searching for a place to bathe and escape the warmth of the Portuguese summer sun.
