About Walcz
Walcz is a county city in Walcz County of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in northwestern Poland. During the years 1975 to 1998, the city changed into administratively part of the Pila Voivodeship. From 1772 to 1945 it was part of Prussia and, from 1871 to 1945, it was also part of Germany. Granted metropolis rights in 1303, Walcz has come to be the administrative, industrial and cultural middle of the Walcz Lake District with the metropolis itself situated on the banks of the Radun and Zamkowe lakes. Walcz is placed within the southwestern portion of West Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The closest cities are Szczecin 300km, Bydgoszcz 115 km, Pila 26 km, Poznan 120 km, Gorzow Wielkopolski 107 km and Koszalin 120 km. Historically, the city belonged to the province of Greater Poland. In the High Middle Ages the location of modern Walcz lied in a boundary territory of Pomerania and Greater Poland. It become ultimately annexed through Poland inside the early 12th century and except a quick Brandenburg rule, it remained as part of Poland till the first partition in 1772.
