About Sokolka
Sokolka is a metropolis in Podlaskie Voivodeship in northeastern Poland. It is a busy rail junction placed at the worldwide Warsaw–Bialystok–Grodno line, with extra connections which go to Suwalki and the Lithuanian border. The location has a Tatar minority. The town become in Bialystok Voivodeship from 1975 to 1998. King Sigismund III Vasa confirmed the fame of the town in 1609. The city's format with its central square is attributed to architect Antoni Tyzenhauz. The Catholic church in a neoclassical style became erected there in 1848. Points of hobby consist of St. Alexander Newski’s Orthodox Church from 1830.
During profession of Poland by means of Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, Sokolka became the place of Sokolka Ghetto for the imprisonment of Polish Jews. The Nazi ghetto served as staging factor for deportations to death camps at some point of the Holocaust in Poland much like most Jewish ghettos throughout the USA. The Jews of all surrounding villages and towns which include Krynki, Janow, Czyzow, and ZarÄ™by Koscielne have been saved there. In general, 8,000–9,000 people were murdered. The principal synagogue changed into destroyed. The Jewish community was no longer restored.
