About Slawno
Slawno is a town on the Wieprza river in Middle Pomerania place, north-western Poland, with 13,322 inhabitants. It is the administrative seat of Gmina Slawno, even though not part of it. The city is also the capital of Slawno County in West Pomeranian Voivodeship since 1999, formerly in Slupsk Voivodeship. Slawno is a railway junction at the primary Gdansk - Szczecin line, with access to secondary significance connections to Darlowo and Korzybie. It is also a stop on the European path E28 going for walks parallel to the south coast of the Baltic Sea among the cities of Koszalin and Slupsk.
Since the mid-12th century the Lands of Schlawe and Stolp have been underneath the rule of Duke Ratibor I of Pomerania and his descendants, a cadet branch of the Griffin dynasty. When the line have become extinct approximately 1227, their estates had been the problem of an inheritance conflict between the Griffin Duke Barnim I the Good and Swantopolk II from the Samborid dynasty, who ruled over the adjacent territories of Pomerelia in the east.
