About Ostroda Castle
Ostroda Castle is a castle positioned inside the area of the Ostroda County, Warmian Masurian Voivodeship in Poland. The first Teutonic stronghold within the area comes from 1270. This was a wood shape, located on a former Prussian gord, placed on a small island in among the waters of the Lake Dwercki and the River Drweca. The citadel in Ostroda become in the beginning the headquarters for the Starosta of Ostroda, who become subordinate to the authority of the Komtur of Dzierzgon. A new castle becomes constructed between 1350 and 1370. The Komtur of Ostroda Gunter von Hohenstein is thought for raising the fortress in Ostroda and Teutonic Castle in Swiecie.
In contrast with the citadel in Swiecie, the Ostroda fortress had no towers, which had been uncommon in Teutonic architecture up until the 14th century. In 1381, two castle systems existed, a new and old, which have been each burned down by using Lithuanian Duke Kestutis. From a Teutonic scripture cestrum Osterode novum cum antiquoplene exustum EST the brand new fortress in Ostroda collectively with the antique one changed into completely burned down.
